Lizzie’s preference for old industrial landscapes was
gradually transformed by her fascination for horses in
An early and unusual approach, with pen and ink
representations of equine muscle sculpture, was reminiscent
of anatomical drawing.
She later developed her technique with palette knife and
oils. This is her favoured medium for transmitting the
strength and movement of a horse under tension to the two
dimensional constraint of canvas.
These paintings illustrate
the fever of a race in an entirely original style.
